Learning about Azeri Language

I was reading a bit about the Azeri language and culture today. Here are a few of the interesting tidbits.

** It is considered rude to enter any place without greeting, so early on you will hear parents saying-- "salamin hardadir"---Where's your hello?

** "Salam [sah-LAHM] an Arabic word that means peace, safety or well-being" is used in greeting.

** Don’t say bad things about flour and products made from wheat. Bread is considered sacred.

Tiff's House...

Yesterday I stopped by Tiff's EXPENSIVE yardsale--- just kidding Tiff! Anyway, Sofia and I did some "itsy bitsy yoga" -- she is way better at it than I am!

my furniture is sold and slowly disappearing from my apartment. never expected to feel attachment to material possessions, but so many memories go along with each piece of furniture, plant, picture, etc.

the doors are opening and new memories will be made, but i am trying my hardest to preserve and cherish the old.

Nebraska Land Days is over...

Well Nebraska-LAND Days has ended.... so I thought I would post a few more of the thousands of pictures that I took. We all had a great time! Loved the rodeo and even the parade!

Languages

I learned a Turkish word the other day, and realized that learning the Azeri/Turkish/Russian languages is going to be a little more difficult than I thought. :)

SELAM is the Turkish word for hello. I will, at the very least, be able to greet people!

Sunday Game Night

At the last minute, yesterday, we decided to play games at my place. Catch Phrase was a hit--- even if we weren't quite thinking straight. A good amount of laughs until exhaustion took over.... NEBRASKALAND DAYS CELEBRATIONS ARE STARTING TO CATCH UP WITH US ALL!

Nebraska Land Days-- 2008

So, the celebrations continue.... the next two weeks are the biggest weeks in North Platte-- Nebraska Land Days! It has been a bittersweet celebration-- but I love being with and seeing all of the wonderful people I have attached to here in North Platte.

We kicked everything off on Thursday with the Brew Fest. Everyone loves MICRO-Brews! And of course had to end the night at Shooters (formerly know as the Country). Then on Friday we all attended the Lifehouse concert! It was a blast! Good times and good tunes! That night also ended at Shooters--- we love to dance and mingle!



This week we have rodeos, cook-offs, and BBQs to attend. Not to mention--- I have to prepare for the upcoming trip to Europe!

Getting Ready

Lots to do before leaving--- for Europe and Azerbaijan! BUT, thankfully I have had time to relax with my family in Indiana. I drove out just after school ended. Stopped in Chicago to visit a friend and then headed on into Indiana--- to mom, dad, and corey's new house! It was a wonderful visit-- but long drive back! Thank goodness I didn't have to drive the whole way back in one night--- exhausted!
